From Duke's Desk to Your's
January 4, 2010
January is Kircher's Kritter's Month!

This month I get the pleasure of introducing some of my friends that need loving and caring homes. Each week we will show you at least one animal from each of our counties (Defiance, Henry, & Paulding). All of these animals are adoptable pets that need homes. My friends just want someone to love them, show them attention, and play with them. My Kircher family is going to give each family a free gift when they adopt a pet from the Defiance County Humane Society, the Henry County Humane Society, or the Paulding County Animal Shelter this month. Also if you bring in any gift for one of our furry friends in the area then you will recieve 25% off your total kash & karry purchase. If you bring in two gifts you can recieve 50% off of your total kash & karry purchase.
According to the United States Humane Society there at 6-8 million dogs and cats that enter a shelter each year. Of that 6-8 million, over half of them are euthanized by shelters. Close to 25% of the pets at the animal shelter are purebred dogs.

By adopting a pet:
... you'll save a life. Because there is limited space at shelters, sometimes they have to make the very hard decision to euthanize those pets that have not been adopted.
... you'll get a healthy pet. Animal shelters are brimming with happy, healthy animals just waiting for someone to take them home. Most shelters examine and give vaccinations to animals when they arrive, and many spay or neuter them before being adopted. In addition to medical care, more and more shelters also screen animals for specific temperaments and behaviors to make sure each family finds the right pet for its lifestyle.

... you'll save money. Adopting a pet from an animal shelter is much less expensive than buying a pet at a pet store or through other sources. In addition, animals from many shelters are already spayed or neutered and vaccinated, which makes the shelter's fee a real bargain.
... you'll feel better. Pets have a way of putting a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Not only do animals give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally, and physically beneficial. Caring for a companion animal can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment and lessen feelings of loneliness and isolation in all age groups. Pets can help your physical health as well—just spending time with an animal can help lower a person's blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and dog walking, pet grooming, and even petting provide increased physical activity that can help strengthen the heart, improve blood circulation, and slow the loss of bone tissue.

... you won't be supporting puppy mills and pet stores. By adopting instead of buying a pet, you can be certain you aren't supporting cruel puppy mills with your money. Puppy mills will continue to operate until people stop purchasing their dogs. Instead of buying a dog, visit your local shelter where you will likely to find dozens of healthy, well-socialized puppies and adult dogs—including purebreds—just waiting for that special home—yours.
Defiance County Humane Society | Trinity Trinity is an independent but loving girl. She is about 3 years old and is spayed. She is such a good girl and has been a resident of DCHS since 2007. She does love attention, but also likes to play. When it's nap time, she would love to lay in your lap and cuddle. The adoption fee of $65 for all felines includes the cost of having them spayed or neutered, feline leukemia free, wormed, vaccinated and flea free. Of course, two are better than just one! The adoption fee for two is only $100!

Defiance County Humane Society | Marah Marah is a Chow mix. This sweet female has a curled tail and a stance like a show dog. She is 3 years old and was left in our drop-off. This beautiful Chow mix would make a great family member since she is housebroken and very obedient. Marah has been at the shelter looking for her forever home since August, 2009. No one likes to feel unwanted. Please let Marah know that you care for her, want her and that you will love her forever. She will reward you with her unconditional love.
